Frequently Asked Questions

What will happen in my first session?

This is a chance for you and the counsellor to see whether you can work together. Your counsellor will explain more about the way they work including issues around confidentiality and will answer any questions or address any fears you may have about counselling.

Your counsellor will be interested in finding out a little of what brings you to counselling now but will not push you for information and will go at a pace which feels right for you.

How often do I need to come and for how long?

Counselling is a one-to-one relationship that requires commitment from both parties. The more consistent the commitment means more opportunity for the therapy process to work. Appointments usually occur on a weekly basis and a set time convienient for you. You and your counsellor will review your work regularly, ensuring that counselling remains beneficial and relevant for you.
